Master Plan For Expressway

One of the most important master plan project going on in Sihanoukville is Phnom Penh – Sihanoukville Expressway. The government said this expressway would create a great link between both the cities.

The construction of the expressway started in March 2019. This will be a $2 billion project, and the project will be funded by China. After the completion of the Phnom Penh – Sihanoukville Expressway, the time it takes to reach will reduce. Currently, it takes about five hours to reach from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh and vice versa. After the completion of this expressway master plan project, it will take just two hours.

Master Plan For Beach

Another project going on for the development of Sihanoukville province is the beach. The authority is planning to establish a master plan to develop the beach in the province, especially Chumteav Mao or Madam Mao Beach.

Preah Sihanouk, provincial tourism director (Taing Sochet Krisna), said most bays in the city are jam due to which it can be a bit challenging to develop further.

Krisna also said, “We are studying the infrastructure such as roads, rest rooms, parking, parks and volley ball courts on the beach among other facilities. Once we finish the study, we will send the plan to the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Council, and the National Committee for Coastal Management and Development of the Cambodian coastal area (NCDD) to approve.”

Master Plan For Airport

The government of Cambodia has also developed a master plan for enhancing aviation. The project is developed to boost traffic growth for the next 20 years.

The airport development project will be divided into two-phase – Phase I and Phase II. The first phase of the project is focused on the construction of a second passenger terminal between 2020 and 2030. It will extend the airport’s terminal by 800 meters to 3300 meters. Talking about the second phase (from 2030 to 2040), it will be focused on the expansion of the terminal and the addition of a new number of ancillary and support facilities.
